Holiday Gift Giving Guide for Men
“Jim, write a holiday gift guide for men.” This is not the assignment I expected as I gladly accepted my bachelor’s degree in accounting a few (quite a few) years ago. Speaking on behalf of men everywhere (a heavy burden to bear), preparing lists of gift ideas is not my strong suit. Nonetheless, as it was an assignment and not a request, here we go.
Unfortunately, Next Day does not offer socks, ties or cologne – not that there’s anything wrong with those gift ideas. What father hasn’t ripped open the brand new bottle of Hai Karate aftershave and been overwhelmed with joy (and the odor)? Who couldn’t use another six-pack of retro tube socks with the triple stripe on top? If you’re ready to move past these classic man-pleasers, here are some other thoughts.
All men (and women, but I’m not allowed to speak for them – that will be Susana’s job) love gadgets, and we’ve got plenty of them available. Does your boss travel much? A flash drive might be a very inexpensive piece of insurance for guaranteeing that their presentation doesn’t disappear off their laptop – and this travel alarm can help get them to that meeting on time. Shopping for your college kid – how about an inexpensive printer for the dorm room? This laser printer costs under $150 and has a cost per page that is a fraction of what ink jets run.
Trying to buy for the high-powered executive who has everything? Almost everyone likes a nice desk accessory such as these wire mesh organizers. Did Dad forget your birthday this year? Maybe he could use a daily planner to keep his busy life (and your birthday) straight. Don’t be afraid to think outside the cologne/tie/sock box – trust me, he’ll appreciate it.
Wait – don’t forget the tape!
