Going green

Going green…brings up memories of Kermit sitting on a log intoning that “it’s not easy being green.” It really isn’t easy. My municipality offers recycling. Yard waste has to be in clearly marked yard waste containers – not marked, not picked up. Plastics, paper and glass are picked up – every other Friday. Good luck keeping that straight! I know a lot of folks who just give up and don’t even try, but that doesn’t seem right.

It can be equally as confusing in office supplies. Do you recycle toner cartridges? You should and it can be easy, but if you choose the wrong partner, it can be very frustrating. Do you use recycled paper for any of your internal needs? Do you reuse file folders? Do you try to go paperless? Again, it’s awfully tempting to throw up your hands and not worry about it, but again, that doesn’t seem right.

Here are a few simple ideas that will clearly make your office greener without costing you a bunch of money, time or aggravation:

  • Recycling toner cartridges
  • Use recycled paper products
  • Reduce deliveries by consolidating purchases – single delivery, single truck creating carbon dioxide

Take small steps first and you’ll find it gets easier and easier.
