The Green Challenge

The green transformation is finally gaining speed. And, no, I’m not talking about the Incredible Hulk.

The seed for an eco-friendly mind-set has been planted. Trends have sprouted and spurred the spread. And the “green” lifestyle is blooming in the minds of millions of Americans. According to Alex Williams, writer for The New York Times, over 35 million Americans regularly buy products that claim to be earth-friendly.

Yesterday the general public was given another boost to think green. X-Prize founder, Peter Diamandis, M.D., announced a contest designed to generate a new generation of automobiles. The challenge: Design a car that exceeds 100 mpg that’s marketable and affordable to main-stream consumers. The X-Prize foundation plans to award 10 million dollars to the winner. Participation is open to everyone.

If hanging millions of dollars over our heads is what it takes to fuel a new generation of automobiles, then so be it. I’m just glad someone has the money to hang.

For those of you who want to contribute to the green movement, without designing a 100 mpg car, you should check out the green products Next Day Office Supplies has to offer. I particularly like the Eco-Products Tree-Free Biodegradable Bagasse Plates. Because these plates are made from 100% sugar cane they’re super eco-friendly. Plus, they come in a quantity of 1,000 per carton, making them ideal for any number of office parties.

Other great products in the Next Day Office Supplies catalog include: Stout® ASTM 6400 Biodegradable Trash Bags, Eco-Products Biodegradable/Compostable Clear Plastic Corn Cups, and Eco-Products™ Potato Starch Cutlery.
