It’s that time of the year again. Temperatures are soaring into the 90’s and humidity is intensifying. And I think my air conditioning is broken. For the past 3 days the thermostat has been stuck at 83 degrees. I haven’t been sleeping well (and this time it’s not from my too firm mattress, thanks to my new mattress pad). So last night I busted out the old fan. I forgot how much I enjoy the humming noise of a fan, not to mention the breeze!
Did you know that fans don’t actually decrease the temperature of the room? They circulate the air throughout the room to create a wind chill effect. The breeze from the fan causes water vapors to evaporate. Thus, the circulating air evaporates the sweat from your skin – cooling you in the process. So the faster the air flows past you, the more heat it will remove from your skin. As you may have guessed, my fan was on full blast (speed 3) all night.
For those of you looking for relief from the heat, Next Day has a variety of fans. I might also remind you that running a fan consumes less energy than an air conditioner… I’ve listed a few fans below categorized by purpose and design:
Small for Desks or Cubicles:
- Lakewood High-Velocity Air Circulator (4” head with three-speeds)
Elegant and Multi-Pivotal:
Standing Multiple Heights:
- Holmes 10” Adjustable Oscillating Blizzard Power Stand Fan
Remote Control and Space-Saving Design:
- Bionaire Remote Control Tower Fan – features a timer with breeze/sleep modes
