Dear Next Day,
“Ergonomic” was recently introduced to me. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a formal introduction (Merriam-Webster wasn’t involved). But rather, it was somewhat of an embarrassing one. You see, I hadn’t actually heard of “Ergonomics” before. I know, totally embarrassing, right? But really, who knew Ergonomics was such a big deal in the working world? I mean, Warren Buffett, look out! Ergo (short for ergonomics, of course) may soon have more stock investments than you.
The good news is, good ‘ole Merri (my nickname for Merriam-Webster) brought me up to speed. So here’s the 411: Ergonomics, pronounced ər-gə-nä-miks, is originally Greek, and became über popular among the British crowd in the early 1950s. Currently, Erog is devoted to the designs and arrangements of the workplace, with the intent of maximizing productivity by reducing worker fatigue and discomfort. I know – totally genius! You’ve definitely got to try this out.
