I once read a story about people sitting around a dinner table discussing life and professions. The point of the story was that though teachers don’t seem to be as well respected as CEOs and Presidents of companies, “Teachers make every other profession possible.” After reading the story, I thought to myself, that’s true! Since the beginning of our time we’ve been learning from others who have taught us what they know.

Although I’ve never been a teacher, I did live with one for a few months. Last year I lived with my cousin while she was in her first year of teaching (she teaches 4th grade). As a new teacher she spent hours every night writing lesson plans and grading papers (sometimes I helped her color “work station projects”). She would even spend her weekends prepping for lessons, and spend her own money on supplies for school. Until then, I had no idea how much extra time and effort our teachers were dedicating to teaching. To all of the teachers out there: Thank you for all that you do!
